Virley Christopher Davis
Augusta, GA – Virley Christopher Davis departed his earthy life on Monday, September 7, 2020. Today we celebrate the life of our great father, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, cousin and friend.
Virley Davis was born January 31, 1948 in McDuffie County, Thomson, Georgia to the late Lucious (L.M) Davis and Ruby Mae Lewis Davis. He was the twelth of sixteen children. He was preceded in death by brothers: Willie Rogers Davis, Roy Vernon Davis, Robert Louis Davis, Eddie Rufus Davis and Larry Milton Davis. Sisters: Levester Davis, Vera Madgalene Davis, Carlene Delores Davis Alford Harris, Johnnie Mae Davis Jennings, Christine Loretta Davis Childs Wilkerson and Rhonda Fleming Davis Harmon.
Virley migrated from the Davis, Lewis, Bentley, Marshall, and Cummings generation. The family became a thriving force in the community as the families merged and prospered.
Virley graduated from T.W. Josey High School, Augusta, the class of 1966 and furthered his education at Paine College, Augusta, Georgia. Virley was an entrepreneur, He was self-employed. He was a Master Brick Mason, Construction Builder, Wood Worker, Mechanic, and Natural Born Comedian. He loved telling jokes. “He laughed a lot.” He was also a natural born athlete, for his football Jersey was retired at T.W. Josey HS where he excelled as a football player. He participated in football, basketball, baseball, and track. He was well known for being very strong and energetic.
One Son preceded him in death: Alfaigo Davis, Augusta, Georgia.
A strong inspirational man and a true advisor to the family structure he leaves cherished memories to two daughters: Sharhonda Davis(Tony) and Scarlett Davis Roland (Jason). Two very loving granddaughters: Jasmine Mitchell and BianccGahee. A devoted grandson: Jeffrey A. Cofer Jr., and four great grands: Jason Jr, Bre, Joe-Joe and Chris. One brother: Lucious Davis, Jr. Three sisters: Mable Davis Johnson, and Shirley Davis, Atlanta, Georgia. Miriam Davis Dunn Marson, Augusta, Georgia.
Left to mourn with fondest memories: one Aunt: Lucille Bentley, Atlanta, Georgia. Special Forces: Patricia Taylor Davis Pace and Pamela Booker Davis. Sister-in-laws: Catherine, Vickie,and Mary Enix, Nieces and Nephews: Sarah Lane, Jerome, Judy(George), Michael, Delmus, Ernest Jr (Bud), Rory(Alesia), Robert(Chip)(Mary), Vanessa, Capteria, Camilla, Derex, Demetrice (Quinn), Randall(Monica), Chuck, Connie, Thaddeus, Tori, Shanee, Shanadore, Ali, Louis, Candance, Mieka(Keith), Damien(Zuri), Sheila, Karen, and Nathaniel.
As penned in a verse of James Weldon Johnson’s “Lift Every Voice and Sing” it has assuredly been the “God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, thou who hast brought us thus far on the way.” Through His beloved son the future for Blacks and all races is now bright and hopeful! Therefore, we should look forward with great expectation to the day when the “Great Emancipation” Jesus, shall return and establish an eternal kingdom.
Private memorial services will be held from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Reverend Marion Williams officiating.
