Vernon Virgil Rikard, Jr
Augusta, GA – Vernon Virgil Rikard, Jr, 84, entered into rest Friday, January 24, 2020, at the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 1, 2020, at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Pastor Ben Rueda and Elder Steve Connor officiating.
Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery.
Mr. Rikard, son of the late Emma Carroll Rikard and Vernon Virgil Rikard, Sr, was a veteran of the United States Air Force and the Korean Conflict. He worked in maintenance at Medical College of Georgia and construction as a home builder with his brother, Grady Campbell. He developed The Subdivision, Clearwater, SC. He and Mr. Campbell owned the water company, Clearwater Heights, and designed the subdivision, Mt. Vernon in South Augusta. He also built Sconyers BBQ with his friend, Gerald Funderburg. Mr. Rikard loved fishing, camping, and spending time with family and his grandkids. He also loved his little dog, Cadillac. He was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church in North Augusta.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Grady Campbell, Guy Sullivan Campbell, Charles Rikard, Lucille James, Marie James, and Elizabeth Ray.
He is survived by his children, Verna Lee Gail Smith (Tim), of Trenton, SC, and Lemuel Virgil Rikard (Lilly), of Hephzibah; his stepdaughter, Carla Duffie (Mickey), of Augusta; his grandchildren, Craig Alley, Nathan Rikard, Jason Rikard, Amelia Rikard, and Burney Doyle; his sister, Thelma Utley, of Augusta; his first wife, Irene Blackstone Toomey; his second wife, Katie Shead; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until the hour of service at the funeral home.
