Vera Marie Ray

Harlem, GA- Vera Marie Ray, 79, wife of the late Ronald P. Ray, entered into rest peacefully at her residence on January 15, 2023.

Mrs. Ray was the daughter of the late Myrtle Cora Richardson Garrard and Edmund Garrard, born in Aiken, SC. She was retired from Summerville Woman’s Medical Group as a LPN. She had a very strong Christian faith. She had a strong love for her family, nature and all wildlife.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Charles Garrard.

She is survived by her children, Gregory Allen Ray (Lady), Julie Ray Hudson (Phil), and Holly Ray Sipe, her grandchildren, Easton Ray, Erin Craft (Will), Madison Hudson, Emily Hudson, Benjamin Barron, Hannah Barron, and Brayden Barron; her three great-granddaughters; and her siblings, Edmund Garrard, Jim Garrard, Dorothy Smith, Lynn Upton, Kathy Swartz, and Bobbie Richardson.

Graveside services will be held for immediate family at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Friday, January 20, at 1pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked to consider donating to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or SPCA Columbia County, 1440 William Few Parkway, Grovetown, GA 30813.

  1. Hated to hear of her passing. I’ve known her daughters and extended family for many years. Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers today as you deal with this difficult time. My family and I are here for you if there is anything we can do for you.

  3. I was deeply saddened when I heard the news of the loss of Miss Ray. I had to sit for a minute and think how long ago I met her and her wonderful family. My heart goes out to her children and extended family. Please except my condolences and know that I am here for you and please don’t hesitate to reach out during this difficult time if there is anything I can do for you all.
