Thelma Juanita Herndon

Augusta, GA – Mrs. Thelma Juanita Herndon, 83, wife of the late Reverend Thomas Speer Herndon, entered into rest Sunday, September 22, 2013, at her residence.

            Memorial services will be held Saturday, September 28, 2013, at 1:00 PM from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Pastor Oscar Whiteside and Pastor Gerald Meriweather officiating.
            Mrs. Herndon, daughter of the late James Tankersly and Georgia Emma Ginn Reese, was born in Lincoln County, GA.  She was Co-Pastor for 31 years for the The Church of God Holiness Tabernacle.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
            She was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Gordon Reese, and by her great grandson Jerad W. Meriweather.
            She is survived by her son, Richard Roberts; her daughters, Tambra New, of Augusta, Mary Ann Carnes, of Woodstock, GA, Sue Ford, of Beech Island, SC, Miriam Ford, of Randalman, NC, and Julia Rivera-Goode, of San Antonio, TX; her brother, James Edwin Reese, of Lincolnton, GA; her sisters, Norma Jean Whiteside, and Carolyn Heaton, both of Augusta; special granddaughter, Stephanie Meriweather; twelve grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews; and many loving church members and former church members.
            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Church of God Holiness Tabernacle, 1001 Telfair St, Augusta, GA 30901.
            The family will receive friends after the service at the church.

    Your struggle is over and there is joy in every morning now. I know there was such a great day of rejoicing Sunday morning. We love you!

  2. Richard, We are so sorry for you and your families loss. Thelma was a fine lady and she will always be remembered with a smile, and she was one of the South’s top cooks and we know where you got that from. No more pain and sadness, just butterflies and sunshine.
