Roger Samuel Tomlin, Sr.
Roger Samuel Tomlin, Sr., beloved husband of 47 years to Ruth Ridgdill Tomlin, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 2, 2022.
Funeral services will be held at Silvercrest Baptist Church Thursday, May 5, at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Eleazer Benenhaley, Dr. Roy Head, and Rev. Wayne Usry officiating. Mr. Tomlin will lie in state at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park.
Mr. Tomlin, a native of Augusta, GA, was the son of the late Roger W. Tomlin, Jr. and Grace Mutimer Tomlin. He was retired from the Richmond County Tax Commissioner’s Office where he was the Director of Motor Vehicles. He was a proud veteran who served in the United States Air Force. He was also a 32nd degree Mason of Social Lodge #1. Mr. Tomlin had a great love of music and was a talented songwriter and bass guitarist. He was in the Southern Gospel group The Promise Land Singers and was a founding member of the Southern Gospel group The Crowns. For almost 20 years, he traveled around the Southeast singing and playing for the Lord. He was a faithful member of Silvercrest Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and sound technician for many years.
Mr. Tomlin was preceded in death by his sister, Ann Tomlin Lynn; niece, Kelly Deans; brother, Roger W. Tomlin III; and nephew, Stuart McCall.
Mr. Tomlin is survived by his son, Roger Samuel Tomlin, Jr. (wife Nina Howard Tomlin), and many nieces and nephews, which he dearly loved.
Pallbearers will be Billy Ridgdill, Jeff Scott, Billy King, Evan Evans, Chris Howard, and Lance Poindexter. Honorary pallbearers will be Lawton Wylds and Steve Kirkland.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 4, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
