Robert M. (Bobby) Fulcher, Jr.
Funeral services will be held from the First United Methodist Church, Waynesboro, at 2 PM, Friday, September 29,2017, with the Rev. Jimmy Cason and Rev. Sam Wilder officiating. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery.
Born to Robert M. and Lucy Freeman Fulcher, Bobby was a lifelong resident of Burke County. After graduating from Waynesboro High School in the Class of 1958, he attended Emory-at-Oxford where he met his sweetheart of 59 years and Emory University. He continued his education at the University of Georgia where he earned degrees in Chemistry and Pharmacy. Upon graduation, he returned to his hometown to practice independent pharmacy for 22 years as owner of Burke Drug Company and co-founder of Burke Apothecary. For the next 22 years, he was the pharmacist in charge at Revco/CVS pharmacy in Waynesboro.
Active for many years in civic organizations and activities, Bobby served as President of the Waynesboro Jaycees and the Waynesboro Exchange Club. He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, serving in the choir, Sunday School Superintendent, Youth Coordinator and on the Board of Trustees. He also served as a Cub Scout Leader and Chairman of the Cancer Society for Burke County.
Bobby was the co-author of several textbooks on Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Math for Allied Health Professionals as well as a consultant on many textbooks in the field of pharmacy. Known for his caring and nurturing personality, Bobby will always be remembered for his smile and heart-felt interactions with those he served. What was most important to Bobby was his family. He was dedicated to them from his immediate family to the concern and love for his aunts and cousins. He always had the needs of his family and others before his own.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved aunt, Elsie Fulcher.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons, John L. (Lee) Fulcher of Waynesboro and Robert E. (Gene) Fulcher of Buford; two grandchildren, Robert M. (Mac) Fulcher and Aileen L. (Allie) Fulcher; a sister, Elizabeth(Betty) Purkey of Waynesboro; an aunt, Mrs. James (Ginny) Freeman of Hilton Head, SC; a nephew, and extended Freeman family.
Pallbearers will be George DeLoach, Roy Jenkins, Gerald Keller, Ray Saxon, Lyle Myers, Wally Bryson, and Woody Huggins.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Bonnie Jenkins, Dr. Charles Green, Jr., Joe Foster, Walt Seegar, Jut Wynne, Bobby Bolton, Reuben Chance, Waynesboro High School Class of 1958, and the employees of Burke Medical Center Rehabilitation Department.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Waynesboro First United Methodist Church, the Burke County Library, or Georgia Southern University Alumni Association.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Bonnie Jenkins, the professional staff and Rehabilitation Department of Burke Medical Center, and the Burke County EMA for the care provided with professionalism and a caring attitude.
