Robert Laverne Hollins

Augusta, GA- In the early hours of Sunday, January 8, 2017, Robert L. “Bob” Hollins, Sr. entered into his heavenly home while a patient at the Charlie Norwood V.A. Medical Center. He was 89 years old and was born and raised in Augusta, GA, the second youngest of eight children.

At the age of 18, he joined the U.S. Navy as World War II was coming to an end. After he returned to Augusta, he was able to get a job in printing the Augusta Herald. But his true love was automobile repair which was a family business. Eventually he was able to open his own business with a partner and later on his own as the owner/operator of Bob and Bob’s Body Shop and Wrecker Service. He provided many years of customer service at Walker Ford, Bob Richards Chevrolet and Bobby Jones Ford.

He was a member of Mann Mize Memorial United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf. He was part of a large, loving family who loved getting together to eat and share stories from the past.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughters: Amy Jenkins and her husband, Roger, Cile Crozier and her husband, Hoby, and Robbin Hollins; his daughter-in-law, Becky Hollins; step-daughter, Thomasena Hollins and her husband, Dale; nine grandchildren: Chris, Lee, Ashley, Melanie, Adam, Lindsey, Robert Michael, Natalie and Connor; numerous great-grandchildren including his two little princesses “Sarah Tinker Bell” and “Sweet Caroline”; his brother, Charles A.“Bodie” Hollins and his wife, Shay; several nieces and nephews and their families; and his devoted friend, “Miss Vera“. He was predeceased by his son, Robert L. “Robby” Hollins, Jr. and by his brothers: Ed, Len and Yates and his sisters: Cile, Cleo and Helen.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 3:00 P.M., in the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Gene Hollins and Rev. Sonny Mason officiating.

Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

The family thanks the V.A. Medical Center for Mr. Hollins’ medical care over the past almost 30 years.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial donation to Augusta Warrior Project, 701 Greene St, Suite 104, Augusta, GA 30901.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday afternoon from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M., at the funeral home.
