Paul M. Ritter

Panama City Beach, FL – Paul M. Ritter, 69, entered into rest Friday, December 31, 2021.

Mr. Ritter, son of the late Wanda Martelli Ritter and James F. Ritter, was born an army brat in New Jersey. Since his father was in the military, he traveled to many countries and states and easily adapted everywhere. He grew up in Augusta, GA and attended the University of Georgia. Before moving to Panama City Beach in the late 1990s, he lived in Athens, Georgia for many years. It was in Athens that he became a die-hard Georgia fan. He lived and breathed the University of Georgia.

Paul managed the Road Atlanta Race Track in the 1980s, and tended bar at several different establishments like George’s Place and Steamers in Athens, GA, and the Magnolia Café in Destin, FL; until settling down in Panama City Beach. In Panama City Beach, he worked at Captain Anderson’s for more than 20 years where the owners and customers were like family. He loved his job and was terribly saddened when his health forced him to retire.

Paul had many interests and talents that he enjoyed talking about. Paul was a certified Scuba Instructor, and Sailboat Captain. He loved traveling, the beach, politics, fishing, gambling, Georgia football, and reading. Because he was such a good story teller, he influenced many people to get out and seek different adventures. He was always a dreamer and never gave up on his dreams. Paul always forged his own path and lived “Life his Way”.

Paul is survived by his sister, Sandy Hall (Louis), of Beech Island, SC; his brother, Dennis F. Ritter, of Fort Walton Beach, FL; his nephews, Brad Hall (Jennifer), of Aiken, SC; and Nick Hall, of Austin, TX; and his great nephews, Cooper Hall and Blair Hall, both of Aiken, SC. He will be missed dearly by all his family.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, from 10:00 until 10:45 am, at the Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM at Hillcrest Memorial Park, immediately following visitation.

Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors, 2502 Richmond Hill Road, Augusta, GA, 30906.

  1. Sad to hear this news. A sweet guy….many great memories from BHS (high school) 1967-1970! RIP from Barry & Monica.

    • Thank you so much for remembering my brother. Seems impossible that he is gone. I stayed with him in November while he had a aneurysm patched. He was so happy it went well and he could get back to life. He had so many plans that he didn’t get to do.

  2. Such sad news…..remember Paul well from Butler High School in Augusta, Ga. Had many classes together. Wonderful personality, kept us all laughing. So so sorry for your loss. Kim Sheffer Sanders

  3. Paul was a good friend… we were back door neighbors in the 60s in the Wilkinson Gardens area. (Across from Mize Methodist Church). We graduated from Butler HS in 1970. Always a good friend and good guy.

I am sorry to hear of Paul’s passing.

    • Thank you so much for remembering my brother and for your kind words. We had good times in the old neighborhood and remember you and your family warmly. We lost him far too soon because of a medical procedure that caused a blood infection. We miss him very much! Sandy
