Ted Michael James

Ted Michael James, lovingly known to family and friends as “Ted Boy,” entered into eternal rest on June 29, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. at Doctors Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family and holding the hands of those who meant the most to him. Born on June 7, 1962, in Waynesboro, Georgia, Ted lived a life centered on faith, family, and hard work. He was a devoted Christian who accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and his family finds comfort in knowing he is now rejoicing in his eternal home with the Lord. Ted dedicated his career as a CDL driver with Southern Asphalt, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dependability. He took great pride in providing for his family and never shied away from hard work. Ted shared 40 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Julie Christie Tatum James. Together they built a life filled with unwavering love, laughter, faith, and devotion to one another and their family. Ted was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose larger-than-life personality left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He never met a stranger and had an incredible gift for making people laugh. His contagious laugh could fill a room, and his playful sense of humor—especially when picking on his daughters—created countless cherished memories that his family will forever hold close. An avid outdoorsman, Ted found his greatest peace sitting in a deer stand before sunrise as the woods came alive around him. Hunting was one of his greatest passions. When he wasn’t hunting, he could usually be found outside working in his yard, taking pride in caring for his home and enjoying God’s creation. Ted is survived by his loving wife, Julie Christie Tatum James; his daughters, Katelyn James Kyles (Garrett) and Heather James Brandon (Dylan); his cherished grandchildren, Gabriel Alexander Carver, Greyson Andrew Carver, Rilee Abigail Brandon, and one precious grandchild on the way, whom he was eagerly anticipating meeting; his sisters, Mary Alice “Sally Britt”, and Nancy James Todd (Wayne); his brothers, Byron James (Susan), Chris James, and Kenneth James (Paulette); along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Ted was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Elliott James; his mother, Mary Rowland James; his brothers, Kevin James, Philip James, and David James; and his sisters, Tammy James Holmes, Sandra James McDonald, Donna James Shea, and Joyce James Quattlebaum. Ted’s legacy is one of unwavering faith, unconditional love, laughter, kindness, and devotion to his family. His contagious laugh, warm smile, generous heart, and love for those around him will never be forgotten. Though our hearts are broken, we rejoice in knowing that Ted Boy is now whole, healed, and in the presence of his Lord and Savior. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and he will be deeply missed until the joyful day we are reunited in Heaven. The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors, 2502 Richmond Hill Road, Augusta, Georgia. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors, followed by interment at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Hephzibah, Georgia 30815. The service will be officiated by Dr. Brenda Wilson Tatum. Pallbearers will be Dylan Brandon, Garrett Kyles, Jesse James, David Marrs, Russell Henderson, and Randall Henderson.
