Margaret James Mims

Augusta GA - Margaret James Mims, age 92, entered into rest Friday, January 12, 2024 at Pruitt Health Augusta Hills, Augusta GA. Mrs. Mims was born in Hephzibah, GA to the late Flady H. James and the late Nancy Ida James. She graduated from Hephzibah High School and soon thereafter married William M. Mims. A couple of years later they were blessed with a daughter Debra. Mrs. Mims started work at Sears & Roebuck Company where she worked as chief of merchandising. After working there a couple of years she & Miller welcomed their son Gregory. The story she always told was that when the manager of Sears first saw Greg, he wanted to take Greg home with him. Mrs. Mims worked for Sears for over 20 years then left and worked at Ft. Gordan as a supply specialist. She retired from this position and stayed home to enjoy the fruits of Miller’s gardens. When she wasn’t shelling peas or butterbeans, she loved working crossword puzzles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Debra Mims Kirkland and her brothers; Vernon James, Morris James, Eugene James, and two sisters; Emmie Ridlehoover and Shirley Skinner. Mrs. Mims is survived by her son Gregory W. Mims of Statesboro, her son-in-law Steve Kirkland of Augusta, her grandchildren, Jeffrey D. Mims of Augusta, Kelleye and Justin Kowal of Evans, Jana and Josh Bolin of Texas, and Bradley Kirkland of Augusta. She was blessed to have 6 great grandchildren, Mackenzie Kowal, Colton Kowal, Thatcher Bolin, Capp Bolin, Steven Kirkland, and Jessica Kirkland. She is also survived by her youngest sister Ann (Ronnie) Key of Augusta, her sister-in-law Annette James, her brother-in-law Edward Skinner as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 17, 2024 in the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors at 2:00 PM with Reverend Wayne Usry officiating. Interment will be at Hephzibah – Vance Cemetery. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Silvercrest Baptist Church General Fund, 3431 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta GA 30906.
