Jesse and Betty Johnson

Augusta, GA – Betty Vi Johnson, 71, and Jesse Cleve Johnson, Jr, 78, entered into rest, respectively, Thursday, July 13, 2023, and Wednesday, July 19, 2023. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, July 25th, 2023, at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors. Pastor Steve Pittman will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:00 PM until the hour of service at the funeral home. Betty, daughter of the late Audley and Minnie Lee Cliett Tucker, was born in Augusta, and graduated from Harlem High School. She retired from Carole Fabrics, working in Customer Service. She enjoyed gardening, decorating, and spending time with her family and friends. She had a way of making every holiday special. Mrs. Johnson was predeceased by her brothers, Benny Tucker, and Clarence Tucker (infant). Jesse, son of the late Jessie Cleve, Sr., and Iris Virginia Powell Johnson, was born in Augusta and was a sheet metal worker with Graniteville Company. He served in the United States Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He enjoyed doting after Betty, the Georgia Bulldogs, wood working, and was a fixer of all things. Mr. Johnson was predeceased by his brother, Eli Johnson. Betty and Jesse were married on July 25, 1970, and were inseparable for 53 years. They were members of New Horizon Church of God and enjoyed serving with their church family. They were devoted parents and loved spending time with their grandchildren. They shared a beautiful life and a Biblical love, devoted to God and enduring all things. Until we are reunited with them in heaven, they will be greatly missed. They are survived by their children, Jessie C. Johnson, III (Yohanny), and Stephanie Reid (James); their grandchildren, Jesse Charles Levi Johnson, Timothy Willis Johnson, Haley Lane, Lane Hunter Reid, and Madalyn Brooke Reid; Betty’s sisters, Mary Gilford, Della Carpenter, Dixie Street, and Jackie Lattin; Jesse’s brother, Mike Johnson; Jesse’s sister, Gloria Kelly; and a host of much-loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
