Iona Kirkendohl

Augusta, GA – Iona Kirkendohl, 87 wife to the late Charles Kirkendohl entered into rest on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at her residence. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors on Friday, October 31, 2025, at 2 o’clock with Pastor Jerry Wilson officiating. Family will receive friends on Friday, October 31, 2025, at 1 o’clock to the hour of the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Mrs. Kirkendohl, daughter of the late William Maxie Wooten and the late Adeline Raper Wooten, was born in Coffee County, GA. She lived most of her adult life in Augusta GA. She was a homemaker. She taught Mission Friends and Sunday School for many years, loved to garden, was a seamstress, enjoyed crafting and she was always busy with her hands. Mrs. Kirkendohl was a former member of Broad Street Baptist Church and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her ten siblings, Willie Mae Wooten Vaughn, Mildred Wooten Vaughn, Mary Ellen Wooten Hewlett, Irene Wooten Patrick, Iva Wooten Graham-Paulk, Alice Wooten Hartzell Best, Willard Wooten, Willaim Maxie Wooten Jr., David Wooten, and Addie Mae Wooten Carver-King. Mrs. Kirkendohl is survived by her two daughters, Linda Carver Macky, and Leona Kirkendohl Thigpen (Gary), her granddaughter, Melinda Jane Mackey Bluett; her great-grandchildren, Oliver Liam Bluett and Kylie Mackenzie Bluett. She was preceded in death by beloved son-in-law William John Macky. The family would like to thank Dr. William Conkwright and Dr. Bimal Shah for their compassionate care; the staff of Azalea Health (especially “Minnie Pearl”) and EnHabit Hospice Staff Jessica, Lena, Elizabeth, and Hope; and loving sitters Cheryl, Sandra, Pat, and especially Glenda for her weekly visits; neighbors Ryan and Amanda, and her church family and friends for the visits and cards. Pallbearers will be Gary Thigpen, Mitchell Kirkendohl, Steve Dent, Moody Reese, Ralph Kitchens, and Bob Krezinski.
