Hazel Johnson

On February 9, 2026, Hazel Bonnett Johnson wife of sixty- five years to the late Claud S. Johnson Jr. went home to be with her Lord and Savior. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 11 o’clock with Dr. Dwayne Carter officiating. Family will receive friends on Friday, February 13, 2026, from 6:00 P.M to 8:00 P.M at Chance & Hydrick funeral home. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Mrs. Johnson was born in Richmond County to the late Alvin C. and Grace Bishop Bonnett. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church, where she served faithfully for many years. She was a member of Faith Bible Class. She was a homemaker and helpmate to her husband all their married life. In addition to her parents and her loving husband she is preceded in death by her brother, James Smith “Smitty” Bonnett, his wife Ruth Matthews Bonnett, his son James E. “Jimmy” Bonnett, his daughter Leila Sue Bonnett. Mrs. Johnson is survived by one son, Richard Allen “Ricky” Johnson (Debbie) from Matthews, GA; three daughters, Patricia Elaine “Pat” Johnson (Joey) from Hephzibah, GA, Linda J. Payne from North Augusta, SC, Angela Cheri Johnson from Augusta, GA; four grandchildren, Donna C. Jacques (Randall) of Martinsburg, WVA, Ashley J. Cunningham (Erik) from Matthews, GA, Tiffany M. Liebl (Eric) from Vero Beach, FL, Clayton Robert Thompson (Toni) from Augusta, GA; eight great grandchildren, Paige C. Perry (Austin), Erik M. Cunningham Jr., Morgan K. Cunningham, Emily Grace Myers, Owen Andrew Liebl, Haley Blythe Liebl, Alexis Fae Birmingham, Kaylie Elizabeth Birmingham; two great-great grandchildren, Able Shane Perry, Kacie Claire Perry; two nieces, Wendy Bonnett from Lawrenceburg, TN, Melissa B. Ivey (Bob) from Abbeville, SC; four great nephews- two great nieces. Pallbearers will include Steve Johnson, Steve Johnson Jr., Thad Calhoun III, Arthur Johnson, Clayton Thompson Erik Cunningham Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be the ladies of Faith Bible Class of Pine Hill Baptist Church.
