Braddock Kendrick Kyzer, Jr., Braddock Kendrick Kyzer, Jr., loving husband of Deborah Burris Kyzer, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 21, 2025 in Waynesboro, Georgia, crossing the finish line of a race he ran with perseverance for 77 years. His family rests assured that he was met with the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Mr. Kyzer was born on December 7, 1947 in Dublin, Ga. to Braddock Kendrick Kyzer, Sr. and Hazel Kyzer. Many of his early years were spent in rural Laurens County, Georgia, with particularly fond memories of his BB gun and a pony named Dan, before the family settled in Augusta in 1959. He graduated from Butler High School in 1966 and then attended the University of Georgia. The summer after his sophomore year, a blonde beauty named Deborah Burris caught his eye at Myrtle Beach, and he made her his bride on June 28,1969. They celebrated 55 years of marriage. After graduating with a B.S. in Forestry in 1970, he began his service in the U.S. Navy, where he developed a lifelong passion for aviation. He served as a navigator for Patrol Squadron 30 and rose to the rank of Lt. Commander. Mr. Kyzer and his wife raised two loving sons, Brian Kyzer (Kam) of Fernandina Beach, Fla. and Sam Kyzer (Anne Marie) of Alexander. He treasured his family and especially enjoyed making memories on many adventures with his grandchildren, Madison Kyzer, Ellie Kyzer, Jack Kyzer, Sam Kyzer Jr. and Audrey Kyzer. The man they affectionately called ‘Papa’ loved them tremendously, prayed for them often and reminded them to toughen up when life got hard. He enjoyed taking them on snow skiing trips throughout their childhoods, particularly to his favorite place, Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and skied right alongside them until age 76. A quiet servant in both demeanor and deeds, Mr. Kyzer spoke through his actions and contributed to others throughout his life. He cherished his service in the U.S. Navy and later the reserves, enjoyed helping people during his decades-long career as a State Farm Insurance agent, and was deeply committed to mentoring and supporting children at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta. He was honored many times for his service and delighted in introducing children to aviation. After retirement, his love of flying led him to work for Augusta Aviation, often piloting flights to accommodate organ transplant surgeries. Above all, he sought, trusted and served the Lord. He prioritized service beyond the church walls, volunteering in community-based ministries and on foreign mission trips. He was a member of Liberty Methodist Church. Mr. Kyzer was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John Robert Kyzer. The family extends special thanks to Nikki Whigham and the nurses with Regency Hospice and to Josephine Jeffers for her special care and own brand of humor that often brought much-needed smiles during the final months of Mr. Kyzer’s battle with cancer. A memorial graveside service will be held Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Liberty Methodist Church with Pastor David Bohling officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
