Betty Jean Kennedy Hammett

Augusta, GA – Mrs. Betty Jean Kennedy Hammett, 80, entered into rest on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at her residence. Funeral Services will be held Thursday morning July 20, 2023, at 11 o’clock from the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors with Rev. Roger Bennett officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Hammett was a lifelong resident of Augusta, born July 25, 1942, to the late Thomas Edward Kennedy and Evie Dora Johnston Kennedy. She was a homemaker and was a charter member of Overcomers Outreach Center. Mrs. Hammett enjoyed singing hymns, drawing, painting, and reading. She enjoyed spending time with her family and will always be remembered for being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Santford Hammett I; two brothers, Earl Kennedy, and Larry Kennedy; a sister, Janie “Boots” Hughes. The family would like to express their appreciation to Southeast Hospice for the exceptional care they provided Mrs. Hammett during her illness. Pallbearers will be Nathan DeLaney, Christopher Hammett, Noah Hammett, Joseph Hammett, Zechariah Hammett, Craig MacDonald, Jonathan Wicker and Ethan Wicker. Survivors include her children, Elissa Peters, John S. Hammett, II, Sean P. Hammett (Christel) and Matthew R. Hammett (Debbie); ten grandchildren, Christy Quante (Chris), Nathan DeLaney, Sheila DeLaney, Dana Wicker (Adam), Abby Smith (Trevor), Heather Brook MacDonald, Christopher Hammett, Noah Hammett, Joseph Hammett and Zechariah Hammett; twelve great-grandchildren, Andre Acevedo, Eli Acevedo, Dante Acevedo, Gabriel Quante, Ethan Quante, Asher Quante, Jonathan Wicker, Ethan Wicker, Conner Wicker, Paxton Smith, Craig MacDonald, and Scottie MacDonald; her siblings, Barbara Reese, James Kennedy and Angie Hathaway (Doug); a number of nieces and nephews.
