Mrs. Betty Jean Joiner Pitts
Jean was born in Wadley, GA, on December 24, 1940, to C.A. Joiner, Sr. and Blanche E. Kitchens Joiner. Jean was a Baptist and was baptized at Moxley Baptist Church as a child. In the 1940’s the family moved to Richmond County where she attended Richmond Academy and also attended Cosmotology school where she challenged her state board in 1958. She worked as a Master Cosmotologist for over 50 years, finally fully retiring at age 74. She was the owner – operator of Hair Fashions by Jean in the 70’s and had a special love for all her customers. She moved to Grovetown and has lived there the rest of her life. Jean lived a long and useful life, and had a God-given gift with her hands. She enjoyed making ceramics, dolls, and sewing, but her greatest gift was she could make flowers grow. Whatever she touched turned out to thrive and grow and make one large beautiful flower garden throughout the entire yard.
Jean is survived by her beloved husband, Phillip D. Pitts, her daughters Kim Jones McGahee, Candy Fischer Faulk (Paul), all of Grovetown, GA, a son William D. “Bill” Pitts (Melissa), Columbia, SC and a step-son, Phillip R. Pitts, North Augusta, SC. Jean had a brother who she loved dearly, C.A. “Buddy” Joiner Jr. and his wife Frances Joiner , of Augusta. A nephew Sean Joiner (Holly). Her grandchildren, Michael Jones, Terry James, Jr., Jesse James, Olivia Vasquez, Seth Pitts, and Liam Pitts. Three great grandchildren and a host of other relatives. She has also left behind her best friend since childhood, Jeanne Lampkin, Smyrna, GA. Jean is predeceased by her mother and father, C.A. Joiner, Sr. and Blanche E. Kitchens Joiner. Her step-daughter Paula Pitts and step-son Kevin Pitts.
