Meldon “Bud” Andrew Mitchell, Jr.

Meldon (Bud) Andrew Mitchell, Jr., 87, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, December 3rd, 2021.

Mel was born on December 8th, 1933 in Haysville, KS, a son of the late Meldon, Sr. and Mary Coss Mitchell. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1951 and served aboard the USS Monongahela during the Korean War. In 1956, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served through the early part of the Vietnam War. Afterward, he became an ordained minister and active missionary with his wife Sharon. Pursuing a career in engineering, he obtained his certification in manufacturing and worked for 20+ years at E-Z-GO/Textron in Augusta, Georgia. Upon retirement, he spent his days writing poetry, collecting old movies, and attending church. He was a member of New Horizon Church of God, a faithful husband, and an all-around great dad.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sharon Garringer Mitchell; sons, Tim, Joel (Nicole), and Jeremy (Jennifer); grandchildren, Abigail, Isabella, Cameron, and Emma; brother, John (Mary Jo), and sister, Quila Roberts. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Betty Thacker, and his brother Larry.

Funeral services will be held at 11am on Wednesday, December 8th, from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors. Interment with military honors will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park, 2700 Deans Bridge Rd., Augusta, GA. All are welcome to attend.

There will be a visitation from 6pm-8pm on Tuesday, December 7th at Chance & Hydrick Funeral Home, 2502 Richmond Hill Rd., Augusta, GA.
