Mary Harrison Clayton


Augusta – Mrs. Mary Harrison Clayton, 80, beloved wife of Mr. Lemuel Hugh “Mell” Clayton, entered into rest on Saturday, July 6, 2013, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors this Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at 11:00 A.M. with the Reverend Jim Hyder officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mrs. Clayton was a native and lifelong resident of Augusta. She had worked for and retired from the Richmond County Board of Education in the School Nutrition Department and was the manager of Collie’s Concession at the Masters. She was a member of the Alice Warren Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and a White Shrine Member. Mrs. Clayton was a previous member of Asbury United Methodist Church and was currently a member of Liberty United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her children, Jimell F. Clayton of Navarre, FL, Joyce L. Gentry of Ponce de Leon, FL and Richard H. Clayon of Appling, GA; her sister, Eleanor L. Harrison of Augusta; and her grandchildren, Christopher Clayton, Stephanie Young, Tricia Owens, Kathryn Clayton, Joseph Clayton, and Drew Clayton; as well as her great grandchildren, Taylor Owens, Tyler Owens, Celeste Clayton and Erin Clayton.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the general fund of Asbury United Methodist Church, 1305 Troupe St., Augusta, Ga 30904.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 at the funeral home.
