Margie Griffin Patterson Thompson

Augusta, GA – Margie Griffin Patterson Thompson, 86, wife of Leonard Dewey Thompson, Sr., entered into rest Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at her Residence.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 29, 2021, at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Dr. Gordon Robinson officiating.

Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mrs. Thompson, daughter of the late Lela Smith Griffin and Charlie Kendrick Griffin, Sr., she was born in Augusta, GA. She retired from Hillcrest Baptist School where she was the lunchroom manager; she also worked for F. W. Woolworth from 1952 – 1967; she was a member of Hillcrest Baptist and active in the Libby Louge Sunday School Class.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Edward Patterson, Sr., grandson, Dustin Sweeney; her sisters, Geneive Griffin James, Mary Ellen Griffin Watkins, and Lela Mae Griffin Hoover; her
brothers, Johnny Woodrow Griffin, William Hugh Griffin, and Charlie Kendrick Griffin, Sr.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Sharon Patterson Hunt (Glen), Diane Patterson Ringgold (Kenny), Carol Patterson Sweeney, Donna Patterson Shinault (Marc), James “Jim”
Patterson, Jr. (Lynn Copeland); step children Leonard Thompson, Jr. (Judy) and Tim Thompson (Nellie); her grandchildren, Ray Ferguson, Jr.,Marcy Ferguson Babb, Adam Sweeney, Jered McCorkle, Marcy
Shinault Acevedo, Matthew Shinault, Brandi Patterson, Nicholas Patterson, and Ashlyn Patterson; her step child, Melissa Headen; 10 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Marc Shinault, Ray Ferguson, Matthew Shinault, Jered McCorkle, Jerry Acevedo, and Roy Wireman.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gideon International, 118 S. Smith St., Sanderville, GA 31082.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until time of service.

  2. Patterson Girls, I am so sorry about your mother’s passing. I Saw the small notice in the paper but did not see any additional information and thereby missed the services. Margie will certainly be remembered and missed by all who knew her. My memories go way, way back to Fleming. She was a kind and gentle lady. My sincere condolences . Gwen Hopkins
