Mabel C. Smith Tompkins
Augusta, GA – Mabel C. Smith Tompkins, 74, wife of late Robert L. Tompkins passed suddenly on December 26, 2020. Her exit was completely unexpected and her family is shocked and deeply saddened.
A private family remembrance service will be held.
Mabel was born in Brundidge, AL on May 21, 1946 to the late Mrs. Vela Mae (June) Fenn and Mr. R.Z. Smith. Mabel was later raised in Indianapolis, IN and after graduation she worked in the retail industry as a Department Buyer and later moved to Augusta, GA in 1978. She worked as an exemplary employee of Ronlyn Food Services at Fort Gordon for over 35 years. She truly enjoyed cooking and her passion for food was known by many in community, church and family. A very kind and genuine person, Mabel was a devout Christian and member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Hephzibah, GA. Through her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her.
Exodus 23:20, “See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and bring you to the place I have prepared.”
Anyone who knew Mabel, knew that she was incredibly giving, loved to help others, kind hearted, greeted you with a big smile and was always full of happy laughter. She loved to spoil her nieces, nephews and grandchildren. She was a source of positivity for many and had immense passion for her work and love of family. Mabel’s family and friends will miss her more than any words can say.
Mabel was preceded in death by her son Robert Kevin Tompkins.
She leaves in her memory her loving and devoted daughter, Ms. Tracy D. Tompkins; her attentive, loyal son Mr. Christopher (Renodia) Tompkins; her steadfast and caring nieces, Ms. La Qunadra Fenn and Ms. Adrienne Thompson; doting nephew, Mr. Benny H. Thompson, II. Also, Mable leaves to cherish her memories six dedicated siblings: Mrs. Donell (Albert) Crockett, Ms. Linda Jones, Ms. Brenda Sue Fenn, Mr. Johnny C. Fenn, Mr. Roosevelt (Debra) Fenn , Mr. James (Doris) Fenn, one aunt, Mrs. Leola Bland of Indianapolis, IN and several beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives.
Contributions in memory of Mabel in lieu of flowers can be made to the Golden Harvest Food Bank or St. Judes Children’s Hospital. This will support her passion to feed others or cancer research.
