Valarie Kepner

Valarie Ann Kepner, 61, of Augusta, GA, entered into eternal rest on July 16, 2024 after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Valarie was born July 27, 1962 in Muncy, PA, she was the daughter of the late James Brittain and Arlene Brittain, North Augusta, SC. She attended Muncy High School and graduated from Bloomsburg University in 1985; she received a master’s degree in education from Chapman College. She was commissioned a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force serving her country before being honorably discharged in 1993. She was employed by the Department of Justice and ended her tenure as Director of Education at Edgefield Federal Correctional Institute. Valarie’s greatest joy was being a mom to Jordan and her stepchildren. She was an amazing daughter, sister and aunt. Valarie was a faithful member of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church serving as Lector and Eucharistic Minister. Valarie was an avid Notre Dame fan and realized a lifelong dream of visiting the campus and watching a home football game in the fall of 2023. She was a Disney enthusiast and made many trips with her daughter to Disney World and Harry Potter World in Orlando, Florida. Valarie loved her cats Whisper and Phantom; and was an avid cross stitcher and reader. Valarie never missed birthdays or anniversaries. She enjoyed going out to dinner with her friends and she will be missed by all that knew her. Valarie was preceded in death by her husband Jeffrey Lee Kepner and her father James Brittain. She is survived by her daughter Jordan Kepner-Donaldson (Thomas), her mother Arlene Brittain; sisters Vicky Wheeland (Todd) of Globe, AZ and Julia Brittain-Hulyo (Michael) of Lititz, PA. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Jason Kepner (Beth) and Jamie Kelley (Jorby); her step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church on August 23, 2024, at 11:00 o’clock with visitation starting at 10:15 until the time of service.
