Theresa Jane Mixon

Theresa Jane Mixon, of Augusta Georgia, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born to William Duncan Lawson and Evie Mae Price Lawson on November 6, 1929, in Bartow, Georgia. Theresa graduated from Kite High School in 1945 and married the love of her life in 1947. Theresa was known to all of her family, most members of her church, and many of her friends as “Nanny”. Funeral Services will be held from Pine Hill Baptist Church, 4233 Old Waynesboro Rd. Hephzibah, GA on Monday, Augusta 31, 2026, at 3:00 o’clock with Dr. DWayne Carter officiating. Mrs. Mixon will lay in state at 2:00 o’clock one hour prior to the service. Family will receive friends on Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM at Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. She taught high school for many years and then began working with Richmond County Water Works until she retired. During her many hours of work she still made sure she did her part in teaching Sunday school, teaching Girls in Action (GA’s) and singing in the church choir. She claimed her most important accomplishment was being a good wife to the man that God chose for me, raising several children, being a mother and grandmother and most of all striving for the highest calling in Jesus Christ her savior. She is survived by her son, Dave ‘Buster’ Mixon (Virgie); her grandchildren, Tina Widgeon McIntyre (Mac), Mark Long (Alison), Joshua Mixon, Sean Cowan (Veronica), Leah O’Brien, Darryl Mixon (Erin); Angel Mixon; Stormi Manon (Evan), Blazze Wilkins (Scott), Brooke ‘Sissy’ Mixon; 19 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren; her sister, Peggy Kight and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Tob Thadys Mixon; her son Duane Mixon; her daughters Judy Mixon and Terri Wright; grandchildren Joni Holsonback and April Stokes. The family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to her dear neighbors and friends, Dennis and Rachel Davis, for their friendship, kindness, and support over the years. We would also like to express our deepest gratitude to her hospice nurse and newfound friend, Terikilas Evans, whom we referred to as her “twin in faith,” and to her hospice aide, Rosemary Gilman, whose attentiveness and loving care meant so very much to her. Our sincere appreciation also goes to the entire Georgia Hospice Care team for their constant comfort and compassionate care.
