Leonard Terry Martin

Augusta, GA – On the 25th of January, 2025, Mr. Leonard Terry Martin, 88, husband for 58 years to the late Mildred Mallard Martin, entered into rest in the comfort of his home, with his family at his side. Funeral services will be Friday, January 31, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors, with the Reverend Billy Atkins officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Will Corman Sunday School Class. Visitation will be Thursday, January 30th, 2025, from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Born in Richmond County, GA and a resident of the CSRA all of his life, Mr. Martin was a son of the late Bailey Baxley and Louise Rowland Martin. He was a 1954 graduate of North Augusta High School. He worked at Merry Brothers Brick Company for approximately 20 years before moving on to Georgia Iron Works as purchasing manager where he stayed for another 20 years before retiring and becoming the co-owner of Specialty Metal Recyclers. He was a dedicated member of Fleming Baptist Church for over 60 years. During his career, Mr. Martin was an active member of the local and national chapters of the National Association of Purchasing Management including serving as local president. He took an active role in his children’s early education by serving as a member and officer of both the athletic booster club and PTA. He enjoyed quail hunting in the area surrounding Girard, Ga. and fishing in Brier Creek with his late father-in-law, Lonnie Mallard. Later in life, he enjoyed deer hunting at a number of different properties in eastern Georgia with his son Philip and loved spending time with all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also never shied away from talking with anybody he ever met whether in church, the grocery store, or the gas station and thoroughly enjoyed each and every conversation. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers Edward Martin and Frank Martin, sisters Myrtle Todd and Glenda Kay Smith, daughter Leigh Ann Martin Schmitz, grandson Nathan Schmitz, and three infant grandsons Tristan, Stefan and Daniel Martin. He is survived by sister Ernestine Pulliam, Greensboro, NC, three sons and daughters-in-laws Terry and Abbie Martin, Shreveport, La; Robert and Becky Martin, Martinez, Philip and Kari Martin, Augusta; son-in-law, Mark Schmitz, Martinez; grandchildren Rhiannon English (Brett), Anders Martin (Carlie), Walker Martin, Harper Martin, Christopher Rhea (Cassie), Rebekah Martin, Chandler Finley (Tripp), Noah and Jacob Schmitz; six great grandsons, Asher, Peter, Hayes, and James Martin, Burns English and Ford Finley; and one great granddaughter, Winona English.
