Jay Douglas Rimmer

Hephzibah, GA – Jay Douglas Rimmer, 72, beloved husband of Laurie Price Rimmer, entered into rest on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at his residence after a brief battle with liver cancer. A funeral service will be held from the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. with Father Vincent Vodjogbe, of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. The Family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 P.M. prior to the service. The Pallbearers will be nephews Franke Leogrande, Jack Leogrande, Tyler Yanak, Edward Salazar, Ben McDade and Dale Bradford. Mr. Rimmer was born in Tacoma, WA, the son of Jean Lininger Lechler and the late John Lawrence Rimmer. He spent most of his life in the Augusta area, growing up in Grovetown and eventually making his home first in Evans and lastly in Hephzibah. Mr. Rimmer had retired as a Boiler Operator from Gracewood State School and Hospital in Augusta, GA. He was an avid collector of antiques, Oriental art and cars and could often be found frequenting area flea markets looking for that next treasure. He had attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waynesboro and was a communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Augusta. In addition to his wife (Laurie) and mother (Jean), he is survived by his children, Douglas Jason Rimmer (Carrie), Herbert Lee Rimmer (Maryellen) and Kevin Skillman; his grandchildren, Jacobii, James, Jayden, Dominic, and Savannah Rimmer; Shane, Soloman, Alexis, and Matthew Skillman; and Brandon Self; and great-grandchild, Gracie Self; his siblings, Judith Leogrande (Frankie), Jaqueline Holien (Larry), Jerri Lynn Rimmer, James “Jimmy” Rimmer (Nicole), Jean Wellfinger (Mark), Julie Steil (Rob). Mr. Rimmer is also survived by many nephews and nieces across the country that he held close to his heart. Mr. Rimmer is preceded in death by his father, his sister Janie Strandt, his brother John Lawrence Rimmer Jr., and his mother-in-law Dr. Frances Price.
