Mr. Jack Lee Burnside Jr

Jack Lee Burnside, Jr., 78 years old, went to be with the Lord on December 30, 2025, at home with his family. Jack was born on October 17, 1947 in Augusta, GA, the only child of the late Jack and Billie Brunside, Sr. Jack attended Butler High School, and he served honorably as a member of the United States Marine Corps. Jack met the love of his life, Charlene Griffin, while they were in high school and they were married on June 4, 1966. The Lord blessed them with two wonderful children: their daughter, Hope (Burnside) Siers of Deland, Florida; and their son, Darrell Burnside of Augusta, GA. He and Charlene made sure their children were able to attend and graduate from Southgate Christian School. They have three grandchildren, Tim (and Kayla) Siers of Orange City, FL, Melody (and Levi) Erickson of Rockford, IL, and David (and Bethany) Siers of Tucson, AZ. Jack has ten great-grandchildren: Brielle, Ethan, Chloe and Josiah Siers of Orange City, FL, Jacelyn and Carter Erickson of Rockford, IL, and Ellie, Boaz, Titus and Judah Siers of Tucson, AZ. Jack was a hard worker and a good provider for his family. After his honorable discharge from the Marines, Jack worked for the Colonial Bakery and then was a regional manager for the Dymo Corporation for nearly 10 years. Jack is best known for his work as a conductor for the Norfolk Southern Railroad for over 25 years from where he retired. For many years, Jack built race cars and drove them competitively at the races on Saturday nights. Jack was always meticulous with the care of his home. Even though his sight and strength were failing him, he kept mowing his grass in his professional way up until the last few months of his life. Jack taught himself how to play the pedal steel guitar. After retirement, he would practice for hours in his garage music studio. In the summertime he would open the garage door and neighbors would often bring lawn chairs and sit on the driveway to listen to him play. He was asked to accompany several famous country music stars but his love was playing Gospel music. He only enjoyed watching four main programs on television, western shows, Elvis movies, NASCAR races and preaching on prophecy. Jack was a born-again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. He was also an active member of Westside Baptist Church. Even though he had many physical difficulties, he did not complain nor let them keep him away from going to church. Everyone loved to see Jack welcome them at the door where he served as a greeter. He also enjoyed helping as a church usher and on the security team. However, the highlight of his service for the Lord came when the Pastor asked him to become a church Deacon and he was elected by the church. He was honored and felt privileged to serve the Lord wherever he was needed. Everywhere Jack went it seemed that people knew him whether they were business owners, mechanics, or restaurant servers. His humor and booming bass voice was his trademark that few can match. He will be truly missed by all of his family, his neighbors and his church. Funeral services will be held at the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Robert Lehn, Rev. David Beck, Rev. David Siers and Rev. Tim Siers officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Family will receive friends on Friday, January 2, 2026, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Darrell Burnside, Tim Siers, David Siers, Tim Timmerman, Paul Redford, Craig Dallas, and John Matthai.
