Louise Caraway Prather

Augusta, GA - Louise Caraway Prather, 94, wife of the late Duluth L. Prather, Jr, entered into rest Sunday, August 26, 2018, at her residence with her family surrounding her. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Reverend J. Todd Wiggins officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Mrs. Prather, daughter of the late Arthur G. and Edith Price Caraway was born in Johnson County, GA. She graduated from Kite High School as Valedictorian and attended GSCW until leaving during wartime to work at the arsenal in Augusta. She worked many years as Secretary of the X-Ray department at University Hospital and then was House Staff Secretary for 20 years before retiring in 1986. She was a member of Silvercrest Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her daughters, Sandra Baty, and Gloria Jean Belcher; eight siblings, and her great granddaughter, Ashlynn Overton. She is survived by her sons, Ronnie D. Prather, and Thomas W. Prather, both of Augusta; her special daughter-in-law, Michele Prather; her grandchildren, Deborah Hawkins, Alisha Prather, Robin Loy, Robbie Bunch, Tara Shoaf, Lee Prather, Michelle Overton, Amanda Prather, Nicole Prather, Rhonda Bradley, and Cheronda Grossman; her great grandchildren, Justin Benson, Meg Hawkins, Bailey Rogers, Ashleigh Prather, Kelli Prather, Lauren Prather, Brittany Plummer, Chandler Bradley, Jackson Prather, Trae Collier, Courtney Collier, Jacup Shoaf, Zayne Overton, Nolan Loy, and Haven Loy; seven great great grandchildren; and special friends, JoAnn Baldridge, Rachel Chavous, and Bobbie Matthews. Pallbearers will be Justin Benson, David Loy, Nolan Loy, Manuel McWhorter, Charles Livingston, and Kenny Rogers. If so desired memorial contributions may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church, Capital Campaign, 3045 Deans Bridge Rd, Augusta, GA 30906.
