Louise M. Findley

Louise M. Findley, 96, entered into the glorious presence of God on Tuesday, May 22, 2018. She was born on November 4, 1921, in Graniteville, South Carolina, to the late William and Nettie Thompson Marchant. Louise met the love of her life, Woodrow W. Findley and they began their marriage on September 25, 1943. They shared many happy years traveling throughout various countries during his military tours. Upon Woodrow's assignment to Fort Gordon, Georgia, in the early 1950's, Augusta became their home. Louise retired from Gracewood State School and Hospital with eighteen years of dedicated service as a House Parent for many special ones to whom she provided loving care. She had a deep love for her Savior, Jesus Christ, and was very active in her church life. As a member of several local civic and community organizations, she enjoyed contributing her time volunteering in many capacities serving others. Mother, Nanny, Bunny, Louise, Mrs. Findley, the many names she was called by her family and friends, was truly one of a kind. She was an amazing mother who treasured her family dearly and enjoyed spending time with all of them. Nanny was always young at heart enjoying life at the fullest keeping active with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Findley, known by all for her sweet loving kindness and passion for life, possessed a gentle spirit in loving and caring for others. Louise maintained close friends over the years and they traveled frequently experiencing many fun adventures. Her passion for music included listening to or attending gospel, country and big band concerts. A favorite past time for "Bunny" and her friend, Ouida, was searching out the best garage sales. And wow....did she collect quite an array of treasures over the years! She was preceded in death by her parents; Woodrow, her husband of 31 years; her daughter, Carole Ann Powell; and her brother, Everett Marchant. Survivors include her daughter, Patty F. Edenfield (Joe); a special sister-in-law, Doris F. Stone (Charles); grandchildren, Brian Powell (Darlene), Derek Edenfield (Allison), Phillip Edenfield (Eun), and Susan Powell Mattison; great-grandchildren, Brittany, R.J., Alexa, Rose, Stella, Jules, Phillip Jun, Nicholas Jin, Will, Bryant, and Caroline; nephew, Rev. Dr. Charles Stone, Jr. (Sherryl); niece, Cynthia Stone Hancock (Dane); great-nieces, Heather Stone, Tiffany Stone and Lara S. Johnson (Scott); great-nephews, Rev. Joshua Stone (Deborah) and Ben Hancock (Meggie); a special one, Jackie Edenfield, who loved her like a mother and whom Louise thought of as a daughter; and Ouida Malon, her best friend of 76 years. The family extends a special thank you to the staff at The Place at Martinez for their loving care of Louise for the past 5 ½ years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to the Wounded Warrior Project, P. O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517 or the Golden Harvest Food Bank, 3310 Commerce Drive, Augusta, GA 30909. Pallbearers will be Brian Powell, Derek Edenfield, Dane Hancock, Ben Hancock, Scott Johnson, and Bobby Timmerman. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 25, 2018, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Reverend Dr. Charles Stone Jr. of London Ontario, Canada officiating.
