Dr. Zwemer, DDS,

Appling, GA - Dr. Jack D. Zwemer, DDS, PhD, 92, beloved husband of his late "Two Angels" Alice Vivian Hollsted Zwemer, the mother of his children and Carol Moore Zwemer, entered into rest on Saturday, February 4, 2017. Funeral services will be held from the Church of the Holy Comforter this Wednesday at 2:00 P.M. with the Reverend Dr. Cynthia N. Taylor officiating. Interment will be private. Dr. Zwemer, a native of Mishawka, IN, was the son of the late John Dewey and Ruth Brooks Zwemer. He was on the faculty of the Univeristy of Illinois, Loma Linda University, University of Kentucky and the Medical College of Georgia. After graduating from dental school, he worked in pediatric dentistry before earning a PhD in Biochemistry. His career included research in Microbiology and Public Health. He contracted with the World Health Organization and the Peace Corps; travelling the world to implement Community Development Programs. After retirement, at the age of 76, he continued working with Pruitt Home Health and at his church the Church of the Holy Comforter. Survivors include his children and their spouses, Judith and Dr. Cedric Taylor, Laurel "Lori" and Larry Stevens, Mark and Suzette Zwemer, Timothy and Jennifer Zwemer, Joel Zwemer, Carol Brinsmead and her husband Leon Johnson, Julie and Harry "Skip" Ashley; his siblings, Dr. Thomas Zwemer, Dr. Elizabeth Larsen and Mrs. Johanna Leonora; his grandchildren and their spouses, Rebecca and Ben Thomas, Laura and Dr. David Shaw, Suzanna and Justin Dowling, Estelle and Mark Poots, John Taylor, Justin and Stephanie Stevens, Blake Stevens, Seon, Zack and Luke Zwemer, Timothy Zwemer and his partner Dr. Moira West, Amanda Zwemer and her partner Frank De Roia, Alice and Donny Lanesbury, Danielle and her partner Amanda Hargreaves, Richard and Suki Brinsmead, Taylor, Holden and Anna Ashley; great grandchildren, Jude and Autumn Shaw, Caleb Dowling, Auraya, Isaiah and Shilo Poots, Kira and Caillin Stevens and Easton Ashley. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons. The family would like to express their gratitude to Marti and Melissa with Pruitt Health Home First Hospice, and to Monya and Evelyn with Rescare.
