Richard "Dick" Johnson

Evans, GA - Richard D. "Dick" Johnson, 89, husband of Mary Anderson Johnson, entered into rest Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at his residence. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 18, 2015, at 11:00 AM from Wesley United Methodist Church with Reverend Greg Porterfield officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park, with Military Honors and Masonic Rites. Mr. Johnson, son of Darwin and Frances Luce Johnson, was a native of Ripley, NY. He served in the United States Army during World War II, and was an Emeritus Member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry S.S. USA. He was a member of the Eastern Star, Alice Warren Chapter #483, where he was past Patron and Charter Member. In 1949, he started R.D. Johnson Paint Contractors, which is still a family business, Johnson & Associates Paint Contractors. He was a current member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He was formerly a member of Burns United Methodist Church for 60 years. During that time he served in many leadership roles, including, Lay Leader, Chairman of the Administrative Board, Chairman of Finance, Chairman of Trustees, and Chairman of Staff Parrish Relations; and he sang with the Chancel Choir for fifteen years. He was also a Past President of the Augusta District of United Methodist Men. He and his wife also were in charge of the Jr. MYF for fifteen years. He was also inducted into the Georgia Softball Hall of Fame. He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Dorothy "Dot" Johnson; his daughter, Cheryl Johnson; and his granddaughters, Mitzi Wright, and Divonna Moore. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Charmayne Johnson, of Augusta, and Becky Moore, of Grovetown; his stepdaughter, Susan Anderson Bone, of Evans; his stepson, Eddie Anderson, of Dublin, GA; his sister, Lois Skindell, of Erie, PA; his grandchildren, Rick Wright (Michelle), Heather Moore, Tiffany Hagerty (Russell), Tabitha Coogler (Raymond), and Lindsey Fulcher; his step grandchildren, Matt Anderson, Alison Bone Smith, and Renee Anderson Oliver; his great grandchildren, Stuart Fulcher, Shealy Wright, Emma Jean Wright, Kayla Fulcher, Jensen Coogler, Easton Coogler, Russell Hagerty II, Madalynn Hagerty, and Roman Coogler; and his step great grandchildren, Chase Oliver, Camden Oliver, Madison Smith, Kate Lee Smith, and Riley Anderson. Active pallbearers will be Larry Bone, Robert Cheeks, Steve Toole, Tommy Williams, Mike Crawford, Jim Cole, Russell Hagerty, and Raymond Coogler. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Gillespie-Pathways Sunday School Class and the Wesley Gospel Singers.
