Wenona Mercer Carter

Augusta, GA - Wenona Mercer Carter, 52, passed away June 16, 2013, at University Hospital, after a long battle with Scleroderma. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors this Wednesday, today, at 2:00 P.M., with Mr. Arthur Pigman officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. In her teen years, Wenona loved sports and participated in cheerleading, softball and basketball, later coaching a youth girls basketball team to the Richmond County championship. After playing, she became the biggest fan of her brothers. As a proud member of Butler High School Class of 1979, she was a member of the sorority Kappa Sigma Phi-KEI. In her adult life, she was employed by Ladybug pest control, Lily Tulip and Physicians' Practice Group before becoming an independent Tupperware rep where she earned her own van. Her last job was as library assistant at Sego Middle School. As a member of the Evans Church of Christ, she enjoyed singing gospel, attending church and being with friends and family. A loving mother, daughter, sister and friend, she battled Scleroderma for over 25 years and was a 2 time cancer survivor. Wenona was preceeded in death by her grandparents R.D. and Louise Dorris, Tom, Sr. and Mary Mercer and her father Thomas W. Mercer, Jr. She is survived by her mother Sherry D. Mercer; her daughter and son-in-law Bethany and Lee Williams; brothers, Todd Mercer (David & Tyler), Trent Mercer and wife Kathy (Katie), Kevin Mercer and wife Amanda; sister Kerri Brooks and husband Charlie (Carolyn, Kaylee & Maddie); stepmother, Brenda Mercer; stepsister, Gin Sellers; and stepbrother, Bo Sibilsky; as well as aunts and uncles. Pallbearers will be David Mercer, Tyler Mercer, Bobby Quattlebaum, Matt Quattlebaum, Kris Quattlebaum & Kevin Dawson. The family wishes to thank the staff and residents of Brentwood Health and Rehabilitation in Waynesboro for their excellent care and loving support.
