Marieta B. Hobbs

Augusta, GA - Marieta B. Hobbs now watches over her family from a heavenly perch. Freed from the burdens of her earthly vessel by her creator in the 66th year of her life, she was peacefully called into this blessed eternal service just before midnight on Thursday December 12, 2019. Marieta Faye Blankenship was born in Fort Worth, Texas on September 16, 1953 the daughter of Lawrence E. Blankenship and Nora Marie Anderson and the younger sister of Larry Mitchell "Pete" Blankenship, all of whom precede her in death; Pete's wife Marilyn survives in Des Moines, Iowa and their daughter Abby Blankenship survives in Phoenix, AZ. Marieta is also survived by her younger sister Cathy Brinley with her husband Gary Beadles in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma and her son Scott Brinley, his wife Rebecca and their children Tyler Brinley and Devon Posey. Cathy's daughter Amanda Brinley precedes Marieta in death. Nancy Trent survives her oldest sister in Fort Worth, Texas with her husband Sam Trent and their children Matthew and Rebekah Trent; Marieta's youngest brother Carl Blankenship survives her in Sunnyvale, California with his wife Delma and their children Joshua and Carla Nicole Blankenship; Joshua's children Lilly, Chris and Zakai Blankenship; and Carla's son Kaiden Blankenship. Marieta married at a young age when her father was stationed at Altus Air Force Base in Oklahoma and moved to Augusta, Georgia where she became a devoted mother to her four surviving sons Thomas Langdon Atkins Jr., Stacy Nathaniel Atkins, Jason Matthew Atkins and Jonathan Lawrence Atkins. Marieta studied computer programming at Augusta Tech when it was an emerging field and found a lifelong career working at the Medical College of Georgia. It was during this time that Marieta met and married the love of her life, John Hobbs, who cared for her until her last day and carries her love with him still. Also surviving Marieta is John's son Jason Hobbs, whom Marieta loved as her fifth son. Marieta was honored at the Medical College of Georgia as a recipient of the first Golden Pen Award and retired as the Director of Revenue Cycle Systems. A lifetime of memories and an enduring family were built from her house in Augusta, Georgia. Marieta loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren fiercely and were her most fruitful bounty. Stacy Atkins' daughter Ashley survives her grandmother in Durant, Oklahoma with her husband Austin Ashley and their baby, Jaxon Gray Ashley, great-grandson to Marieta. Jason Atkins survives his mother in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania with his wife Tammy Marie Waichulis and their children Jason Matthew Atkins Jr., Alexis Faye Atkins, Savannah Maye Atkins, Owen Ray Atkins, Natalee Kaye Atkins, Amanda Grace Atkins, Tabitha Trace Atkins, Karlie Shaye Atkins, Isaiah Zay Atkins, Nathan Tray Atkins, and Spencer Day Atkins. Marieta's youngest son Jonathan Atkins and his wife Kristina Neal survive in Augusta, Georgia with their children Jonathan Lawrence Atkins, Jr. and Kailey Marie Atkins. Jason Hobbs also survives with his children John Hobbs, Leicie Hobbs and Caitlyn Hobbs and her two children Ruger and Clara Atkinson. A visitation will be held by the family on Monday December 16 from 6-8pm at Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors for those who wish to pay their last respects or say goodbye to Marieta. Services will be held the following day, Tuesday December 17 at 1pm, at Mann-Mize UMC (2705 Milledgeville Rd., Augusta, GA 30904) where John and Marieta were longtime members, and where your attendance is welcomed and appreciated. The family will attend a private interment immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may me made to Mann Mize UMC or to the Graves' Disease & Thyroid Foundation.
