Luther Horace Gaskill, Sr

Augusta, GA – Luther Horace Gaskill, Sr, 88, husband of the late Marian Janson Gaskill, of Gaskill Rd, entered into rest Wednesday, February 2, 2011, at Medical College of Georgia.

Graveside services will be held Friday, February 4, at 3:00 pm at the Gaskill Family Cemetery, 2313 Gaskill Rd – off Old McDuffie Rd – with Pastor John Olmes officiating.

Family and friends are requested to assemble at the grave.

Mr. Gaskill was a life-long resident of Augusta and was a Jehovah’s Witness.  He served from January 23, 1940 until August 3, 1945 in the United States Army.  He received an Honorable Discharge after serving in the North Pacific during World War II, against the Japanese troops on the Aleutians and Kiska Island.  He married Marian Janson Gaskill on November 18, 1943.  He retired from the Railroad Company after seventeen years of service where he inspected and repaired freight cars.

He was preceded in death by his son, Luther Gaskill, II, his grandson, Larry Crawford, and his sister, Sabra Gaskill.

He is survived by his son, Carl Gordon Gaskill, of Augusta; his daughters, Gloria Jean Moxley, of Vidalia, Laura Lee Gay, Nina Ruth Mills, and Laverne Dawn Cowart, all of Augusta; his sister, Laura Pipkin, of Daytona, FL; his grandchildren, Teresa, Carl Jr, Trisha, Luther III, Todd, Chess, Sonya, Brandy, Shirl, Alisha, and David; and twenty great grandchildren.

  1. lavern, i was so sorry to read or your dad’s death.Also was shocked that Larry is gone, and your Mom. we haven’t seen or talked with each other in so long.Please contact me sometime so we can catch up. Again I’m so sorry.
