Lorene P. Phillips

Evans, GA – Lorene P. Phillips, 89, entered peacefully into rest Saturday, January 23, 2021, at her home in Evans.
Mrs. Phillips, daughter of the late Bernice Hall Porterfield and Homer Thomas Porterfield, was born in Clearwater, SC, on August 20, 1931. She was a Civil Service employee for both the VA and Eisenhower Hospitals. Following her retirement, she served as a “Granny” at Gracewood State School and Hospital, where she cared dearly for her assigned residents.  Other activities included greeting visitors at Fort Discovery, regularly working the Richmond County election polls and multiple other senior volunteer efforts.  She lived a life of love and sacrifice for her family and was a source of strength and joy to all who knew and loved her.  She was a member of Crestview Baptist Church.
Her hobbies were many and varied.  She enjoyed Square Dancing and was a member of the Interlocken Squares and the Richmond Reelers square dance clubs.  She was an avid coin collector, a creative crocheter and an amazing cook.  She also loved Bingo, as well as Crossword and Word Search puzzles.  
She is survived by her children, Tommy Dyson (Kimberley), and Connie Dyson; her grandchildren, Eric Dyson (Shannon), Michael Lee Markwalter (Melanie), and Carl Joe Dyson; her great-grandchildren, Kristin Dyson and Gavin Dyson; her sister, Carolyn Watkins; an aunt, Willadean Hunt and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private Services will be held at a later date. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, February 5, 2021, from 1:00 until 4:00 PM.
