Waynesboro, GA – Mr. Lamar Prescott, 85, entered into rest Thursday, September 5, 2013, at University Hospital.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, September 8, 2013, at 3:30 PM from Burke Memorial Gardens, Waynesboro, GA, with Reverend Wayne Dixon officiating.

Mr. Prescott, son of the late Wilbur and Lillian Jenkins Prescott, was born in Jenkins County and was a member of Habersham United Methodist Church. He was self-employed as a farmer and was named Farmer of the Year in 1951. He served as President of the Board of Gold Kist for 30 years and was a former board member of the Farm Bureau and of Nutra Sweet. He also served on the Briar Creek Soil Conservation Committee for many years.

He was preceded in death by his son, Lamar Prescott, Jr, and by his sister, Anne Prescott Thompson.

He is survived by his son, Jody Prescott, and his wife, Melinda, of Waynesboro; his grandchildren, Robert Hammond Lamar Prescott, Sidney Carroll Prescott, Jacqueline Naomi Prescott, and Nancy Grace Prescott, all of Waynesboro; the mother of his children, Elsie S. Prescott; his brother, Joe Prescott, of Lumber City, GA; his sister, Dell Prescott Jones, of Idalou, TX; special double first cousin, Eunice McFeely, of Augusta; and special friends Wendell and Annette Bolton, of Waynesboro.

The family would like to thank his caregiver, Corine Johnson, for her attention during his illness.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the boards of Farm Bureau and Nutra Sweet.

The family will receive friends, Sunday, September 8, 2013, from 1:00 until 2:30 PM, from the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church of Waynesboro, 853 N Liberty Street, Waynesboro, GA 30830.
