Joseph Ray Sapp Sr.

Hephzibah, GA – Joseph Ray Sapp Sr., 81, beloved husband of Carolyn Marie Neely Sapp, entered into rest Friday, July 1, 2022, at AU Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at 11:00 o’clock, at Berlin United Methodist Church, with Reverend Melissa Reynolds officiating.

Interment will be following in the church cemetery.

Mr. Sapp, son of the late Ellen Jane Jenkins and George C. Sapp, was born in Waynesboro, GA.

Mr. Sapp retired from USF Dugan Trucking where he enjoyed many years earning a living and providing for his family. He, Marie and the children sold apples while they were growing up, and they made the best candied apples. He continued making them with his grandchildren. After retirement, he loved selling produce and meeting new people. Some of his favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Ray Sapp Jr. (Lynn), Phillis Goetzman (Mike), Ellen Troglen (Charles); his 8 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Ray entered 5th generation male status with the birth of Waylon Sapp, just a month ago.

Pallbearers will be Joey Sapp, David Goetzman, Harvey Goetzman, Austin Troglen, Tim Templin, Bryan Ego, Cowyn Sapp, and Braiden Ego.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday July 5, 2022, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the The Sapp family, c/o Ray Sapp Jr., to help with Funeral expenses.

  3. I’ve known Ray since I was 15 and now I’m 61. He was a huge family man that loved his family with his whole being. He was always smiling and playing around and having fun. Ray you will be very missed.
