Joseph Michael Tobias

Edgefield, SC – Joseph Michael Tobias, 67, died peacefully after a two-year battle with lung cancer on Sunday, September 12, 2021. His wife, Emilie Tobias, son Joseph Michael Tobias Jr., sister Kathy Tobias, and brother Tim Tobias were honored to be by his side.

An Army brat, Joe was born in El Paso, Texas where his father, Joseph Tobias of Augusta, Maine and his mother, Nellie Taylor Tobias of Sylvania, Georgia were stationed. His life-long loves included family first, then reading, music, travel, and politics. He will be most remembered for his gentle, funny, and irreverent way of “telling it like it is”. After an early career at Castleberry’s, Joe served as a registered nurse in oncology, hospice and substance abuse nursing. He helped many people in extreme trials in their lives. With his own personal battles, he found redemption through Christ. Surrender, acceptance, humor and peace characterized his brave time with a terminal illness.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 18, at 2 p.m. at Grace Fellowship Church, 1725 Sibley Rd, Augusta, GA 30909. We ask that all attending the service wear a face mask in support of the wishes of the family to protect at-risk attendees. No one will be admitted without a mask. Masks will be provided if needed.
