John Abraham Barnhart

Hephzibah, GA – John Abraham Barnhart, 91 years & 6 months, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2013, at the home of his son, Earl Barnhart where he has lived for the past 2 years. Mr. Barnhart was born September 17, 1921, in Rockingham Co., Virginia to the late Charles Gabriel and Vada Heatwole Barnhart. He was a member of the Hephzibah Mennonite Church. He was a retired mail carrier and farmer.
On June 2, 1944, he married Mildred Anna Good who preceded him in death. He is survived by five sons, Jerry of Grovetown, Earl (Hettie) of Waynesboro, Mark (Faye) of Hephzibah, Glen (Coleen) of Waynesboro, Philip (Hilda) of Hephzibah and daughter-in-law Joyce Barnhart of Hephzibah; twenty-nine grandchildren, fifty-six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
On October 2, 1988 he married Frances Good Whetzel who also preceded him in death. A stepson, Garnett Whetzel also preceded him in death. Surviving are a step daughter-in-law, Esther Whetzel of Mathias, WV, five step grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren.
Mr. Barnhart had one sister, Mary Catherine Miller, and two brothers, David and Paul Barnhart, who preceded him in death. One brother, James Barnhart, survives.
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 23, 2013, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Hephzibah Mennonite Church on Rheney Rd.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. at the Hephzibah Mennonite Church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Waynesboro Mennonite School, c/o Andrew Peachy, 898 Rosier Rd, Waynesboro, GA 30830.
