James “Jimmy” Prather

Augusta, GA – Mr. James “Jimmy” Prather, 81, husband of Mrs. Lois Prather, entered into rest on Friday, August 21, 2015 at the Charlie Norwood V.A. Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 1:00 P.M., with Dr. Timothy Pendrey and the Reverend Paul Lewis officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Prather, a native and lifelong resident of Augusta, was the son of the late Robert Fred and Ida Pearl Crawford Prather. He had retired as a machinist from Georgia Iron Works, and was a member of the Order of Fraternal Eagles. He enjoyed the outdoors including gardening, fishing and hunting, was an avid Georgia Bulldog and Atlanta Brave fan and made everyone smile, never meeting a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Huff Prather.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughters, Jan Prather Olive and her husband Larry and Angie Prather Miller and her husband Eric; his step-daughters, Kathy Hydrick and Karen Ceron and her husband Oscar; his grandchildren, Jessica Faye Chapman and her husband Michael, Chase Harman, Ryan Sanders and Sarah-Anne Sanders; his step-grandchildren, David, Derek, Kirsten, Andy, Mitch and Shea; his great grandson, Michael Chapman; as well as his very special and lifelong friends, Honey Cook and T-90 Cook.
