James “Jim” Wiley Jones

Evans, GA – James Wiley Jones “Jim”, born October 9, 1952, died Wednesday, November 9, 2016.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elbert O. Jones, and is survived by his wife, Bobbie Jean Hall Jones; his son, Rodney Paschal (Susan); his daughter, Stephanie Paschal Robinson (Sam); his grandsons, Sam and Benjamin Robinson, and James and Jack Paschal; and his sister, Mary Lou Jones Chapman.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 12, 2016, at 1:00 PM from Wesley United Methodist Church, Evans, GA, with Reverend Greg Porterfield officiating.

Inurnment will follow in Wesley Gardens.

A graduate of East Henderson High School (1970), Jim earned a BS degree from Western Carolina University (1974.) Upon graduation, he joined the accounting firm of Peat, Marwick & Mitchell (Greensboro, NC.) After five years there, Jim joined Duke University (Durham, NC) as accountant and later Chief Financial Director. In 2005, he moved to Augusta to accept a position as Chief Financial Officer for Georgia Regents University. He took early retirement because of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) which he battled courageously for three years. At the time of his death, he was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church where he had been active in Sunday School and numerous mission outreach ministries of the church.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Journey Sunday School Class.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

    Needless to say I am heartbroken for you and your family.

    Since Jim and Iwre just kids and started our band together, I have loved him like a little brother. I don’t know if a kinder or sweeter person. Though, time and distance separated us, he was in my thoughts regularly. I have always been so proud of him.

  9. Bobbi and family, I am very sorry to hear of Jim’s death. I worked at Duke and Jim was a great help and source of information. I always respected his calm manner when dealing with difficult issues. Also, when I think of Jim I remember the wonderful eulogy that he delivered at Donna’s funeral. My prayers are with all of you as you transition through this difficult time. May you feel God’s comfort.
