J.C. Bentley

Augusta, GA – Jiles Cleveland “J.C.” Bentley, 84, husband of 61 years to the late Anne Utley Bentley entered into rest Friday, September 20, 2013 surrounded by his family when the Lord called him home.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 11:00 A.M., in the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with  Reverend Greg Bentley and Mr. Larry Hubbard officiating. Burial will follow in Hephzibah-Vance Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great-grandsons.
Mr. Bentley was born in Aiken, SC to the late Elijah and Azile Redd Bentley. He was a retired self-employed Masonry Contractor Bentley & Sons and he was involved in building several churches in the Augusta area. He was a strong man of faith who instilled this faith into his children. He loved to hunt birds and fish, but always put the Lord Jesus first along with his family. He was ordained as a deacon in 1956 at 2nd Baptist Church, Sunday School teacher, faithful church member of Southside Baptist Church, bird dog trainer, softball coach for Pine Hill Baptist Church and a Atlanta Braves and University of Georgia Football fan.
Preceded in death by his son Mike Bentley and brothers Calvin and Clifton Bentley.
Survivors include his children, Gail Corley and her husband Tommy of Augusta, Ricky Bentley and his wife Stacey of Hephzibah and Greg Bentley and his wife Mickey of Ludowici, GA; sister, Bettye Snipes of Aiken, SC; brothers, Charles Bentley of Aiken, SC and Matt Bentley of Hephzibah, GA; ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice especially Nurse Becky and Dr. Van Alstine.

The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6 until 8 PM at the funeral home.

  1. To the family of Mr. J.C. we offer our sincere condolences. Bob and I have always held him in such high regard. As a business man and as a Christian he always conducted himself in a way that was pleasing to God. A man with a big heart! He leaves behind a great legacy in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. We are truly sorry for your loss and our prayers are with your family.
