Hammond C. Clarke, Sr.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at 2:00 PM from Hopeful Baptist Church, 2973 Winter Rd, Blythe, GA, with Reverend Greg Glover and Reverend Steven Spencer officiating. He will lie in state one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Clarke, son of the late John and Lizzie Williamson Clarke, was a member of Hopeful Baptist Church for 67 years. There he served as a church deacon and maintained the church cemetery for many years. He worked as a repairman for Sears and retired after 25 years. He then worked at Plant Vogtle for several years. During World War II he served in the Pacific with the United States Navy.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Milton, JB, and Eben Clarke; and his sisters, Louise Anderson, Mary Bates, Ruby Beck, Gladys Clarke, and Helen Kennedy.
He is survived by his son, Hammond “Hank” C. Clarke, Jr. (Debbie); of Hephzibah; his daughters, Kimberly Clarke, and Jan Clarke, both of Hephzibah; his grandchildren, Melissa Clarke, Nikki McLain (Barry), Brandi Gaines (Delan), and Matthew Veal; his great grandchildren, Baylor McLain, Madyson Clarke, and Jackson and William Gaines; his brother, Graham Clarke; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Barry McLain, Matthew Veal, Leck Montgomery, Ted Montgomery, Charlie Brinkman, and Derek Partridge.
Honorary pallbearers will be deacons and former deacons of Hopeful Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 13, 2017, from 6:30 until 8:30 PM at the funeral home.
