Augusta, GA – Gurney Flake Pharr, SFC, US Army Retired, 86, beloved husband of the late Rachel Maxine Pharr, entered into rest on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors this Thursday, April 2, 2015, at 11:00 AM, with the Reverend Bill Pharr and the Reverend Charlie DeLoach officiating. Interment with full military honors will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, SC.

Mr. Pharr, a native of Iredell County, NC, was the son of the late Denver Clyde and Fannie Bennett Pharr. He was a veteran of the US Army having served in the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts where he was awarded the Bronze Star with Valor, two US Army commendation medals, and the Cross of Gallantry with a Silver Star. Mr. Pharr retired after 21 years of service with the rank of Sergeant First Class. Following retirement from the military he had worked as a machine operator from Essette-Pendaflex and from the Kendall Company. He was a member of Bayvale Baptist Church.

He is survived by his children, Steven Pharr of Jackson, SC, Richard “Rick” and his wife Sheryl Pharr of Thomson and Eva Jane and her husband Tony McCarty of Grovetown; his brother, Reverend William “Bill” Pharr; his sister, Mary Zeola Martinez, both of Statesville, NC; grandchildren, Leyla Cross, Charlie Pharr, Eric McCarty, SPC Cody McCarty, Clay McCarty and Michael Johnson; great grandchildren, Justin Kelsey, Andrew Kelsey, Trey Cross, Julianne Cross and Peyton Cross.

If desired memorials may be made to Bayvale Baptist Church, 2240 Bayvale Road, Augusta, GA, 30909. The family will receive friends this Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
