Burial services will be private.
Gunnar was born in Chicago, majored in Electrical Engineering at the University of Illinois, and served as flight engineer in the U.S. Navy. His career was with Commonwealth-Edison, American Can, and other container companies, where he worked as an electrical engineer, design engineer, manager of electrical engineering, and director of engineering, in Chicago and Fairlawn, New Jersey. At the apex of his career, he built a manufacturing plant in China.
Twenty years ago, he and Kay retired to Palm Beach, FL. They enjoyed travel all over the world, and they loved the ocean. Gunnar had a passion for cars, especially Mercedes. He was a hockey enthusiast, and one of his last excursions was to go to a hockey game in Augusta and meet the players. In his younger days, he made jewelry and he fashioned miniature furniture for a dollhouse that he also made.
He and Kay moved to Augusta in 2011 so that he could be well cared for at Elmcroft of Martinez. Despite the Alzheimer’s, Gunnar never lost his gentle spirit and his quick wit.
Many thanks go to Kim Gulley, who gave Gunnar loving, compassionate care during his two years at Elmcroft.
Gunnar is survived by close friends, including Lee Bergman, who considered him a brother.
