Gerald P. “Bud” Stroud
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at 5:00 P.M., from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Mr. James Gay and Mr. Bill Gustafson officiating. Interment will be prior to the service in Burke Memorial Gardens, Waynesboro, GA at 2:00 P.M.
Mr. Stroud was born in Atlanta, Georgia and the son of the late Herman H. & Blanche Bullard Stroud. He was in fellowship with the believers at Bethany Chapel. He served as Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy during WWII and was a survivor of the sunken naval vessel USS Chicago. During his time in the Navy, Mr. Stroud was a member of the US naval baseball team based in Norfolk, VA. He served as an elder at Burkehaven Chapel in Waynesboro, GA before relocating to Augusta in 2002. He served on the board of Christian Youth Camps (Camp Hope) and also counseled at Camp Hope for many years. Teaching the Wednesday morning Bible study class at the GA War Veterans Nursing Home in Augusta for fourteen years was one of the delights of his later years. An avid golfer, Mr. Stroud was a charter member of the Waynesboro Country Club. He was a retired salesman with Momar Inc.
Mr. Stroud was preceded in death by his daughter Peggy Ryals and grandson Jonathan Stroud.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters Phyllis Thompson of Augusta, Patricia Passink (Lenny) of Birmingham, AL and son Phillip Stroud (Pamela) of Martinez, son-in–law Allen Ryals of Brunswick, GA, his grandchildren, Neil Thompson, Bryan Passink, Elana Jones, Matthew Stroud, Caroline Stroud and great grandchildren, Blair Passink, Sarah, Passink, Molly Gnagy, Anna Grace Jones and Ryals Jones.
