Ernest Fay (Butch) Register, Jr.

Augusta, GA – Ernest Fay (Butch) Register, Jr., 61, husband of Barbara Jackson Register, of Bransford Rd , entered into rest Wednesday, January 19, 2010, at University Hospital .

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 22, 2011, at 11:00 AM from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Dr. Rodger Murchison officiating.

Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park .

Mr. Register, son of the late Ernest F. and Florence Corbett Register, was born in Augusta , GA and was a member of First Baptist Church of Augusta.  He participated in numerous activities and clubs including Cub Scouts, Little League Baseball, Murphy Junior High Football and Butler High School Football.  He attended University of G e o r g i a and received an AA degree from Brewton Pa rk er College , an AA degree from Georgia Military College and a BA and a MEd from Troy St ate University .  In 1997, he retired from the Army National Guard having served since 1970, completing 30 years of Military Service.  He worked with the Augusta Police Department, the Richmond County S herri ff’s Office, the Burke County S heri ff’s Office, and since 1997 was with the Richmond County B o ard of Education as a School Safety Officer and Special Education Teacher for Cross Creek High School .  In 2007, he was named Richmond County ’s Coach of the Year for the JV Baseball Team at Cross Creek High School .

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Kimberly Dawn Register Smith and her husband, Brian; sons, Wesley David Register and his wife, Tiffany, and Ernest Brent Register and his wife, Melissa; sister, Madeline Faye Register Bandy and her husband, George Maynard; step children, Lauren Jackson Daniel and her husband, Carter, and M. Austin Jackson; grandchildren, Chloie Register, Eli Register, Emma Register, Ila Kate Register, Hudson Smith, Harrison Smith, and Sumner C. Daniel; niece, Dr. Gina Michelle Bandy Cutler and her husband, Jeff, of Anderson, SC; great niece and nephew, Danielle Elise Cutler and Joseph MacKenzie Cutler also of Anderson, SC; nephew George Michael Bandy and his wife Lynn of Fleming Island, FL; great nieces and nephew, Gillian Madison Bandy, Grace MaryAnna Bandy, Gianna Madelyn Bandy, George Michael (Micah) Bandy, Jr., also of Fleming Island, FL.

Pallbearers and Honor Guard will be members of the Georgia Army National Guard.

Honorary Color Guard will be members of the Cross Creek High School JROTC.  Honorary pallbeareres will be Cross Creek High School Family and the Richmond County S heri ff’s Department.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Friday, from 5:00 until 7:00 pm.
