Eric Lynn Smith

Waynesboro, GA – Eric Lynn Smith, 63, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at his residence.

Mr. Smith was the son of the late Elliott Smith and Joyce Story Smith, was born in Gibson, GA. He was retired from Augusta Newsprint after 37 years of service.  Mr. Smith was able to retire on his farm, Four Oaks, in Alexander, GA. He loved raising and training his English Pointers Ruby and Katy to hunt. He had started taking horseback riding lessons to hunt with them in the fields as was his lifelong dream. He also partnered with Burke County to start a conservation program for Bobwhite Quail at Four Oaks. He was a man of honor, honesty and integrity.

He loved learning new things and there was never a challenge he was not ready to accept. He was an accomplished heirloom quilter and created several custom gunstocks as hobbies. He loved learning about history. The history of our world, our nation and his own. He was passionate about genealogy. He loved to watch things grow. He tended his garden and orchard at Four Oaks each spring and summer and found joy in what it produced. He always said “If you don’t plant it, it will never grow.” That belief was true in the fields and the hearts of his family.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Heather Langley (Steve), his grandchildren, Jackson Langley, Olivia Langley, Finn Langley, and Forrest Langley, his sister, Marcia Smith.

Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors, 2502 Richmond Hill Road, Augusta, GA, 30906.
