Duluth L. Prather, Jr
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Reverend John Kilpatrick, Dr. Roy Head, and Reverend Todd Wiggins officiating.
Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park.
Mr. Prather, son of the late Duluth Lee Sr and Mattie Smith Prather was a native of Augusta, and graduated from Augusta Richmond Academy in 1940. He worked as the bookkeeper for Claussen Bakery, then for the Brunswick Shipyard, the Naval Shipyard in Charleston, SC, and the Veterans Hospital in Augusta. He retired in 1993, after 29 years, from E.I. Dupont at Savannah River Plant. His favorite hobbies were fishing and recording his music.
He was preceded in death by his daughters, Sandra Baty and Gloria Jean Belcher, and his brother, Willie U. Prather.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his sons, Ronnie D. Prather, and Thomas W. Prather, both of Augusta; his special daughter in law, Michele Prather; his grandchildren, Deborah Hawkins, Alisha Prather, Robin Loy, Robbie Bunch, Tara Shoaf, Lee Prather, Michelle Overton, Amanda Prather, Nicole Prather, Rhonda Bradley, and Cheronda Grossman; his great grandchildren, Justin Benson, Meg Hawkins, Bailey Rogers, Ashleigh Prather, Kelli Prather, Lauren Prather, Brittany Plummer, Chandler Bradley, Jackson Prather, Trae Collier, Courtney Collier, Jacup Shoaf, Zayne Overton, Ashlynn Overton, Nolan Loy and Haven Loy; and five great great grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be Justin Benson, David Loy, Nolan Loy, Charles Livingston, Manuel McWhorter, and Kenny Rogers.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Silvercrest Baptist Church.
The family would like to thank Trinity Hospice, Tina McDaniel, RN, Ashanti, CNA, and his caretaker, Cynthia, for their wonderful care.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 20, 2016, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
