Duane Ratcliff

Augusta, GA – Roger “Duane” Ratcliff, “Daddy Rat”, 72, husband of Claudia McKee Ratcliff entered into rest on Sunday, January 17, 2016 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at 2:00 PM in Piney Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Mark Joyner officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Willie Womack, Jeff Ard, David Powell, Joey Dozier, Joey McKee, Ryan Smith, Kelvin Deaton and Henry Mason.

Honorary Pallbearers will be members of Local Union 150 and the Mens Sunday School Class of Piney Grove Baptist Church.

He was born in Alton, IL to the late Fred and Virginia Ratcliff. He was a Retired Steamfitter and a VERY proud member of Local 150 Pipefitters and Steamfitters Union for 50 years. Duane was a loving husband, father and was highly respected in the construction field and left his handprint on many projects all over the world.

He loved hunting, fishing, NASCAR races and spending time with his wife and family. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church, the Mens Sunday School Class and the Brotherhood of Piney Grove Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Anita Ratcliff and his daughter Sherry Greaves.

Other survivors include his children, Chris Ratcliff (Beth), Sharon Thornton (David), Karen Boswell (Mark) and Lori Smith (Gill); brother, Mark Ratcliff (Denise); grandchildren, Holly Mazur, Joey Mazur, Ryan Smith, Layla Goldner, Macy Flinchum, Marc Kniphfer, Olivia Greaves, Cody Boswell, Austin Boswell, James Ratcliff, Emma Ratcliff and Maddie Ratcliff; great-grandchildren, McKenlee Smith, Samuel Flinchum and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home.

  1. My condolences go out to the Ratcliff family for the loss of such a wonderful man. How I wish I’d had the opportunity to know this man personally. Reading the words from you about him, and seeing the photos you shared from special times in his life, gave me some insight as to the loving Husband, Father, and Mentor he was to so many.   2. So sad for your loss Claudia. I have such fond memories of my cousin Duane growing up. He was always showing the younger cousins an ingenious way to have fun. He must have been a wonderful grandparent with his adventuresome nature. Thinking of you and praying for God’s grace to strengthen you for the future.
