Dorothy “Dot” Whitaker Powell

Waynesboro, GA – Dorothy “Dot” Whitaker Powell, 88, wife of 65 years to Willie R. Powell, entered into rest Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 27, 2012, at 2:00 PM, from First Baptist Church of Waynesboro with Reverend Mike Godfrey and Tom Bugg officiating.
Interment will follow in Burke Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Powell, daughter of the late Eunice and Lena Moore Whitaker, was a 1942 graduate of Waynesboro High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesboro where she volunteered in the Infant Nursery for 40 years. She was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class and later the Spares and Pairs Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Peggy Powell Dunn; and her grandsons, Mark Dunn, and Craig Dunn.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her daughter, Jackie McIlwain and her husband, Horace, of Appling; her sons, Bobby Powell and his fiance, Barbara Hays, of Jonesboro, GA, and Tommy Powell and his wife, Bonnie, of Waynesboro; her sister, Lois Parker, of Wilmington, NC; her brother, Richard Whitaker and his wife, Betty, of Belvedere, SC; her grandchildren, Lisa Golden (Larry), Dottie McLaughlin (Patrick), Thomas Davis (Carrie), Robbie Powell, Kayla Powell, Michael Dunn (Kim), Christopher Powell (Anne Marie), and Lena Marie Powell; many great grandchildren; and one great great granchild.
Active pallbearers will be Madison Saxon, Dalton Green, Larry Golden, Jesse Moore, Thomas Davis, and Patrick McLaughlin.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Spares and Pairs Sunday School Class.
If so desired memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 853 North Liberty St, Waynesboro, GA 30830.
The family will receive friends Saturday, from 1:00 PM until the hour of service in the Old Fellowship Hall at First Baptist Church of Waynesboro.
